Two cousins, Leila and Kaya, only nine months apart in age face unequal opportunities that will impact their chances to succeed. Leila turned four in December. Her father’s work hours were reduced considerably due to the economy, and her parents could not afford to send her to preschool. Leila’s parents hope she will be able to catch up to her peers who have attended preschool when she enrolls in the junior kindergarten program next year.
